Accomplishments for Teachers

Jul 14, 2025

One of the best feelings in life is to accomplish something, anything!! It could be that feeling of getting the house decluttered. Or the sense of having your finances in order. This could include being able to pay bills on time and not having to borrow money to do so. It could also involve having a retirement plan that makes you happy to think about retiring. Or, it could be the feeling of legacy building. Knowing that your children or grandchildren will have a secure financial start in life because of your hard work and planning. You want to be the generation in your family that makes life better for the next generation. Leaving a legacy is not always about money; you can set up the next generation of your family to conquer the world by spending time with them and fostering their interests.

I am sure you can think of many accomplishments in your life, both big and small. One important accomplishment is a great retirement plan and ending your career able to pursue other passions. You deserve to have options before and after retirement. It can be as simple as changing your spending habits and investing $15 a day. The difference that makes to your retirement is substantial. Then, as $15 a day becomes more achievable, increase that investment to $20 a day. Get a pay rise? Increase it again.
Small, but powerful actions like investing are the cornerstone of your retirement fund. In 2024, the average amount in KiwiSaver for people near retirement was just over $58,000. New Zealanders are not putting enough aside for retirement and taking advantage of all the investment options available to us. The historically best investments have been property and shares. Both investments carry risk, however, there is a greater risk of not taking action. This means retiring with very little money which gives you very few options for what you can do while retired. Teachers should not have this reality, as you work too hard for anything like this to happen.

Therefore, do something today that you will feel a real sense of achievement about when you are older. If you need help, please read our book or join our course.

Keep doing the mahi that makes a real difference to our young people.
